Cairo

It is approaching two weeks ago since we left England and the last few days have been busy.  In order to see everything we wanted to in Morocco, we spent  a total of 23 hours on buses travelling hundreds of kilometres, then having to take trains and planes, eventually arriving in Cairo feeling exhausted.

Sometimes travel can take it out of you so much that it seems perfectly logical to jump in a car with a total stranger and weave your way in and out of traffic at 120km/h in an alien city at 7am in the morning, without so much as a thought other than your head hitting the pillow...

A week ago we also saw the bombings of the Israeli embassy on TV and there is a strong military presence here as many believe the revolution is not yet over...

Seeing buildings like this in the middle of down town would suggest that Egypt has some way to go in becoming more stable.

After a quick sleep, we explored the streets of Cairo, a little apprehensive after the BBC coverage of the revolution and the recent bombing of the Israeli embassy, but excited nonetheless.

We headed down to see the Nile.
Watched the sun set on the Nile.
Next day went to see how they produce paper from the papyrus plant.
'The Final Judgement'
Then came the hard sell.  We may or may not have bought three pictures and five bookmarks, but when Cassandra is trying harder to sell than than the guy in the shop what am I to do?
Then afterwards we went to Giza where we were offered horses or camels.
We chose not to do the usual tourist photos instead opting to capture classier more provoking images.
Wasn't sure if they would let us still climb up - but they did.
Saw this camel and thought...when in Egypt!
There's the sphinx - the oldest known monumental sculpture in the world.
Pyramid at Dashur: We went there because you can go down inside.
60 metres down this narrow tunnel.
It stank of ammonia but was impressive to see inside nonetheless.
The Twelfth and final pyramid we saw - pretty sure our driver just wanted to make a day of it to be honest.
