Motorcycle Diaries Part II

The first weekend we took a trip up to Masaka, first catching the ferry and then driving through the countryside. Here are some of the photographs taken from that trip.
A typical scene with the dirt red road and a local who had been chopping wood.
There are few better ways to travel than on the back of a motorcycle.
These locals cannot afford such luxuries hence the bicycle loaded with branches and the jerry cans waiting to be loaded.
This was my favourite road on the island but on the horizon you can see where companies have been felling large areas of forest in order to make a profit from planting palm oil.
At mirembe beach there is a very different vibe from the rest of the island.
A nearby house made from traditional methods - using natural materials such as mud, sticks and timbers.
It was very surprising to find a boat building yard in the middle of this jungle.
A local vegetable store where we could buy ingredients to go with our rice or pasta.
Small dried fish which are caught from lake victoria and are very popular in Uganda.
Meeting the women's organisation who sing, dance and make crafts such as hats and handbags woven from banana leaves.
They also make beads using paper from old magazines which is later varnished.
The end product are these necklaces.
We went to meet this incredible lady who was 84 and a former teacher. Recently her daughter had died and she had taken to making these mats to keep herself busy.
